We are thrilled to share that we have broken ground on an exciting personal project: building my family’s new home in Morrison, Colorado! When we got started, I already had a strong vision for the exterior of this home. The most successful design projects are built on collaboration, so step one was to gather a team that works well together. We enlisted the help of architect Alison Noble of Blue Sky Architects to bring our vision to life. I am lucky to also have a great contractor at my beck and call: Andrew McLaughlin, my husband and the owner of Elevation Custom Builds.
The Location
The property in Morrison, where our new home will be located, is a gorgeous wooded setting with tall pine trees in every direction. There is so much natural beauty here, and it has been a fantastic source of inspiration as we work through the design details. Here’s a look at the lot before we started construction:

The Vision
Our new home will be 4,500 square feet to accommodate our family of five. We knew we wanted the architecture to complement the stunning natural surroundings, so we created a design that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor living with textural materials in a natural color palette. It embraces a classic ranch style with a modern twist, featuring a walk-out basement:

A rendering and elevations to illustrate our vision for our new home
Every aspect of this home has been designed with our family in mind, and one of our top priorities was accessibility. Our hope is that our dream home can be a place for our family to grow gracefully, so we wanted to ensure that it is easy for everyone to navigate. The main level is fully accessible, with large doorways, wide open spaces, and zero-entry showers for safety and convenience. We also chose to forgo adding stairs for the garage, front entry, and patio. I know my kids will enjoy the garage door on the back side of the house, which connects the front and back yards for easy bike and scooter access. These decisions will help to enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality of the home.
We can’t wait to share the final results with you once we have settled into our new home in Morrison! Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for progress updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses of our design journey, as we bring our dream home to life.
